🧺 More details on the Library's Annual Fundraising Dinner!

I already told you that the annual Rachel Kohl Community Library fundraising dinner is scheduled for Tuesday, September 15 at 5:30 pm at Fava in Glen Mills. You can catch all the details and grab your tickets here before they sell out!

But did you know that there are also 8 raffle baskets (currently at the library) that will be raffled off at the dinner? There are some serious baskets this year, including items worth over $2,300, that WILL NOT DISAPPOINT. I made a basket specifically for the t(w)eens. πŸ₯° I feel like so many baskets are for adults, and tweens and teens deserve a bit of love. It could be a great gift for a t(w)een in your life!

I've got a new article up this week with all the details on the dinner, the baskets, and how you can get tickets for both. Hope to see you there!

πŸ’Ž Charmed by good company

Not even a tornado warning could stop a group of Brandywine Cool Girls from gathering last Thursday night for an encore Charm Bar event at OsoSweet Bakery Cafe. If you haven’t yet heard of Brandywine Cool Girls (BCG) and you’re a lady who likes to hang with female friends, it’s high time you put BCG on your social radar. I attended the event and loved the vibe. Check out more details!

BCG just released its September calendar of events, which includes a walk at Longwood and apple picking. 🍏 See the article for details on where to get more information (socials, newsletter).

🏠 Painter's Folly headed to the auction block

Chadds Ford Township voted to put the Painter's Folly house up for auction in the next couple of months. Check out the statement from the Painter's Folly Preservation Alliance for more details and a few things to consider about how this all came to be. Our township has been sitting on this property for nearly a decade and has done nothing with it. So many lost opportunities that have irked a wide array of residents for many reasons. Pretty much everyone agrees the township isn't the right steward for the property, but proactive handling could have led to a different outcome.

πŸŽ‰ Blow off the last of the summer STEAM

School starts on Monday, but there's still time to get in some last-minute summer fun! A while back, I told you about S2STEM, a super cool company that offers all sorts of STEM programs for kids. This Friday (Aug 28 from 4-6 pm), they're hosting an End-of-Summer Celebration at their new location in Glen Mills. Get all the details and sign up here! It's free, targeted for kids 5-14, and there will be a moon bounce. Exactly zero kids complain about parties with moon bounces! Check it out!

⚑ Electrify Everything at Home Open House!

Don't forget about the Electrify Everything at Home Open House I'm hosting on Sunday, Sept 13 from 2- 4 p.m. Mark your calendars, and stop by to learn why and how to electrify your home.

If you’ve been curious about EVs, rooftop solar, heat pumps, induction stoves, and generally how to swap fossil fuels for electrons at home, this is a great chance to walk through a real home, ask real questions, and skip the sales pitch. No cost to attend; registration is free.

Get more details here. Registration is required! I hope you can make it!!

πŸ’› PLEASE SHARE! πŸ’› The more the merrier, so please share this with others you think might be interested.

πŸ§˜πŸ»β€β™€οΈ Need a little reset?

This Friday (tomorrow), check out the class at The Yoga Space Chadds Ford: "From Overwhelmed to Regulated." All the details in the flyer below. The last class sold out, so they're doing it again. You can sign up here!

πŸ’ Ponder This

In this section, I share book recommendations, articles, podcasts, quotes, and other links I think Chadds Ford neighbors might find interesting. Let me know what you think.

πŸ’š Ready to have a productive conversation with someone who disagrees with you?

πŸ“± Should we do this at Unionville High School? (It's already happening at Patton and the elementary schools.)

🀬 Are men too emotional to vote? --> I hope you understand I don't believe this to be true. But when a LOT of men are making this claim about women, we must flip the script and ask the same question about men. There's a real movement to strip women of their right to vote, and it's worth paying attention to. It all seems far-fetched... until it's not. Moreover, it's not a conversation that should even be happening. We should be encouraging all eligible voters to cast their ballots, regardless of demographics.

πŸ€– Data centers are a proxy for our anger with tech (and billionaires bossing us around to boost their bank accounts and buy their private islands). But can data centers be done right?

πŸ’Έ Reflections on DOGE from someone who had high hopes for its promise. (Note: This article is behind a paywall, but it's a really great publication that challenges partisan status quos and has really thoughtful commentary on our country and its politics, if you're interested.)

❓ Heard this recently, and curious what you think. Since WW2, the United States has maintained "conditions of geopolitical hegemony, where you are running an enormous empire of consent and empire by invitation, [that] require you to do good for other people in a way that sustains your long-term hegemony." (source)

We've been this enormous global superpower, in part, because we've done good for others in exchange for them doing what we want. That paradigm and trust have been smashed to bits by our current administration. What does that mean for the United States' global hegemonic future?
