Rich history at Spring Valley A.M.E this weekendThis weekend is Juneteenth. In honor of the holiday, Concord Township Parks and Recreation is hosting a special event at Spring Valley AME Church. Explore the history of Concord's U.S. Colored Troop Veterans, the legacy of Spring Valley AME Church, and local stories of freedom, faith, and community. They'll have light refreshments, and it's free and open to anyone who wants to attend. Stop by to check it out and get a taste of our local area's rich history. Hit up the growing Concord Farmers' Market this weekendIn its second year, the Concord Farmers' Market continues to grow. Have you stopped by to check it out? This year, they have several food and produce vendors, as well as flowers, honey, candles, coffee, baked goods, fresh bread, fun drinks, and more. The market runs every Sunday from 10 am - 1 pm at Concord Township Park through August 30. BYO Bag (if you want, not required) and meet your neighbors. π Speaking of local food... farm to front door!Have you heard of Doorstep Dairy? As you might expect, they... deliver dairy to your doorstep (and lots of other locally and regionally produced food too). I've been a Doorstep Dairy customer for years, and love the service. Check out the full article this week, including my interview with the owner, to learn more. It's a great way to get some of your groceries delivered right to your doorstep while supporting our local food economy! Ever wish the laundry would just clean itself?I've got the next best thing. 𫧠Neighbor Olivia wants to be your laundry fairy godmother, and she's got a whole team of Sudsy Mamas (and one Sudsy Dad) to help make that happen. This week, I shared a full profile of The Sudsy Mama, a hyperlocal laundry service that will take one big thing off your plate. Check out all the details. It might just make laundry day a whole lot easier! β π° P.S. Know someone who loves doing laundry in Chadds Ford? They may not want to sign up for the service, but they could be the next Sudsy Mama (or Dad), making bank by turning dirty clothes into sparkly-clean piles of textile goodness! π Better than trash for your oldies but goodiesDon't toss those clothes and home goods that are still in good condition but have plenty of life left. There's another Goodwill coming to our community, where you can shop and/or donate your used-but-in-good-condition stuff to become someone else's newest gem! π At the corner of Route 202 and Route 926, a new Goodwill opens today, June 18 (10 E Street Rd, West Chester, PA). They'll be open from 9 am - 8 pm. Stop by and be one of the first shoppers! Walking into summer π£The next Walking Club meet-up is on June 30 at 7:30 am at Brinton Run Preserve. Details here. Put it on your calendar so you don't forget. This is our last walk before we take a summer break. βοΈ We'll skip July and August when the heat peaks and vacations are aplenty. Then we'll put our walking shoes back on after Labor Day.
π Ponder ThisIn this section, I share book recommendations, articles, podcasts, quotes, and other links I think Chadds Ford neighbors might find interesting. Let me know what you think. π³οΈ Did you know you only need to be 17 to work the polls on Election Day? Does anyone know a local student who might be interested in working the polls? UCFSD has no school on Election Day. It's never too early to plan for free and fair elections. π On raising teenage boysβ π Also on raising boys into men, just finished this book, Notes on Being a Man by Scott Galloway. An interesting commentary on masculinity, how we define strong men, and how we raise boys to be good men. Galloway has two sons and is very attuned to the 'manosphere.' It's clear his thoughts are informed by some of the concerning ways society, politicians, and young online influencers in particular are currently defining how men "should" act and be. It's not gospel, but it's definitely worth a read. π€ The concerns of letting AI do our brainstorming. π£ Friendly reminder that your voice is important to pass multi-county school tax legislation to make our UCFSD taxes a bit fairer. π₯ The response to TACO is EMPANODA: "Everyone makes promises, and no one does anything." Politics is really thriving these days. π Can you sense my sarcasm through the screen? π€‘ P.S. I know it's spelled "empanada". π Celebrating 250 moments that made America America over the last 250 years. β¨ Loving Connect Chadds Ford β¨While I donβt have any secrets behind paywalls, did you know you can choose to become a paid subscriber if you value Connect Chadds Ford and itβs within your budget?
